The Sandberg PowerBackup is not just an extension of the iPhone’s or iPod’s battery capacity – it’s also a portable charger.
Sandberg has previously released backup batteries onto the market which, with USB connections, are suitable for all the various types of mobile device, such as the
Sandberg PowerBank. What is the point in releasing a battery now that only works with the iPhone and iPod?
Product Manager Anders Petersen answers:
“By targeting the new product at iPhone and iPod users, it’s possible to create a design suitable for just these products. It is much less clumsy to use if the backup battery is a barely noticeably extension of the actual mobile device. The iPhone and iPod are also the most widespread devices on the market so the potential is still relatively high.”
Powerbackup is not just a backup battery which you can use to extend the battery life of your iPhone, for example when it’s about to run out of power. PowerBackup is also powerful enough to charge an iPhone so you can whip it out when you need to take a phone call for example and continue charging in your pocket once you have finished talking.
The Product Manager continues:
“PowerBackup is actually so powerful that you can sometimes hear the charging process as a low humming noise during a conversation so we recommend that you remove the PowerBackup while talking. It’s also fair to say that we’ve gone to great lengths with the design of the PowerBackup so I think that the majority of people will consider their iPhone more manageable without the extra extension attached to it.”
The PowerBackup is charged using the iPhone’s own charger. If you attach the charging cable while the PowerBackup is still attached to the iPhone, the iPhone will charge first and then the PowerBackup will automatically begin charging.
PowerBackup can hold up to 1900 mAh – enough for more than 50 hours of music. Four blue indicators on the PowerBackup display how much power remains.
The Sandberg PowerBackup will be making its way onto the market very soon. Further information on how to buy it is available at Sandberg’s website:
