Sandberg wants to re-enter the speaker market

With the advanced Sandberg Pro Speaker Set 2.1, Sandberg aims to make the brand essential again in the market for medium-sized speaker solutions for IT/the brown goods segment. A market in which Sandberg has not been a major force since the SoundExperience range back in 2007. In the meantime, a single subwoofer system, PantherSound, was piloted which won lots of praise in 2009 but never developed into an actual product range.

But that's all about to change! At the end of 2010, Sandberg launched the small speaker system called the USB CUBE Speaker Set 2.0 for laptop users, which quickly became a success. The Pro Speaker Set now follows and in the next couple of weeks two models in the StreetGear rangeare expected, meaning Sandberg will be able to offer a complete line-up.

The Sandberg Pro Speaker Set 2.1 is a subwoofer system for standard stereo output. As such, it can be used with anything from computers and video games consoles to iPods and mobiles. The 4" bass unit is housed in a wood enclosure with an elegant, backlit volume control on the front panel. Two smaller flat-panel speakers supply the upper part of the sound profile. A nearby mains power socket is required to power the built-in amplifier.

The set is included in Sandberg's quality assurance programme and is therefore covered by a 5-year warranty. Nevertheless, the price is far below the market price for similar speaker sets on the market from other brand names.

“It's a bitter pill to swallow when you've been away from the market for a while”, Erling Hoff Peterson, Sales Director, explains of the pricing policy. “We have to start out at a very aggressive price level in order to have a chance of penetrating this market again. I don't want to say that we've been sleeping in class but during the past few years we've been focusing on other areas and this means you lose space on the store shelves and awareness among buyers and consumers.”

He continues: “When you don't have millions to spend on advertising, which can inflate prices, there's only one way forward and that is to sell a superb product at a fantastically low price. It's the only way the Sandberg name can once again be synonymous with being a supplier of superb audio products.”

The Sandberg Pro Speaker Set 2.1 genuinely is value for money. The sound profile is nuanced, the stereo dynamics are good and the upper as well as the lower audible ranges are delivered with crystal clear quality. Stick a bunch of MP3 files on your mobile, connect that to a Sandberg Pro Speaker Set 2.1 and you have instant music for your party. Or connect the system to your video games console and the realism in each and every game is multiplied by several hundred per cent. The price ought to be affordable for everyone.
