Small drives add new dimension to netbooks

Many consumers have purchased one of the new, small laptops that we have come to know as netbooks. And a large number of these have been irritated to find that there is no slot for CDs or DVDs. It's no fun having a collection of games, data or anything else saved on CD when it can't be used with a netbook. Sandberg has now solved this problem with no less than three different drives that can be connected in a matter of seconds and that are easy to carry around. They don't even need an external power supply.
The range consists of a floppy disk drive, a CD drive and a DVD drive. All three are extremely compact, incredibly light and finished in smart white plastic. Sandberg is well known for extremely high quality and is happy to back these three new drives with no less than a 5-year warranty and a free hotline service. This is a first for drives in this price range. Erling Hoff Petersen, Sales Director at Sandberg A/S, talks about the new range: "During development we concentrated on user-friendliness and simplicity. We invest in functionality, quality and an attractive price before high specifications. We don't believe that the typical netbook user wants to burn DVDs, or needs LightScribe, Blue-ray or overlay buffer technologies. They only want to be able to use their disks and CDs on the new computer, or even possibly to use it as a portable DVD player. Simplicity, reliability and design are the key words here."
Bringing a new 3.5" disk drive onto the market seems like something of a step back in time. The Sales Director explains: "I agree, from a technical and IT point of view it could seem completely crazy to bring a floppy drive onto the market at this time. But, it's a well known fact that a lot of users have disks holding data and programme installations. These are both individuals and companies, regardless of whether they use netbooks or any other type of computer. We know from the dealers that packs of ten new, empty disks are still being sold. As far as we're concerned, it's not about being where the newest technology is. Sandberg must be where the consumers are. And sometimes the consumers just aren't where the newest technology is."
