Sandberg, who is currently firing one USB 3.0 product after the other onto the market, is now launching an insert card that allows you to upgrade your laptop with USB 3.0. It sounds really simple, and it is! When you open the stylish packaging you will find no more than the card itself and a single cable in the packaging. And a user guide of course. All you need to do is insert the card into an available Card Express port in the laptop and a few moments later the rest is done automatically: The two new USB 3.0 ports have been installed and are ready for use. To change from an older USB standard to USB 3.0 is like going from a drinking straw to a fire hydrant: Everything goes at full swing when the new standard expands and produces up to 5 Gbit/sec. That is more than 400 times faster than the original USB port's 0.012 Gbit/sec. Sandberg's card is backward compatible. This means it works just as well with hardware that only supports USB 2.0 and USB 1.0. In all cases the Sandberg card will try to run as fast as possible according to the connected device. We ask Sandberg's Product Manager Anders Petersen if there are any speed problems for USB 3.0 devices when you insert a slow device into one of the two new USB 3.0 ports that come with the card. He replies: "No, we have ensured that an asymmetric design is used. This means that each of the ports produce to a maximum regardless of the other. You can run 10 Mbit on one port and 5 Gbit on the other. No problem." And how about the small cable we also found in the packaging? "That is for extra power. Some USB devices require lots of extra power. In these cases all you have to do is connect the small cable and collect power from one of the ordinary USB ports on the computer." Sandberg works according to the "IT is for everybody" concept. This is why we focus on making the product work properly as well as being easy to use. There is also a user guide that everyone can understand and the Sandberg Helpdesk is ready to help when needed. Anyone can use it. And for security purposes Sandberg is topping up to a five-year warranty in total. You can't get better security than that. |
